I'm looking to buy a VSWR/ power meter for my shack. I'm confused by all the options.

I'd like something that works 'in line', rather than occasional attachment.

My main interest is QRP, so I'd like something that indicates lower power, but higher if needed.

As I prefer to operate QRP, I'd like something that can assure me, for example, that I'm not pushing out more than 5 watts.

In the old days, I had a cheap SWR meter for a CB set-up; I prefer to spend good money once, rather than cheap quick fixes; not withstanding this, I don't want to spend £500, for functionality that I won't use.

My options seem to be one needle, cross needle displays, or I see a couple of digital ones.

Not that it helps, but my rigs are IC-718, FT-450D and an 817ND.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks

Chris

AC PSU for mobile radio https://hamradioforum.net/threads/8955-AC-PSU-for-mobile-radio?goto=newpost Sat, 01 Jun 2019 05:21:22 GMT Hey,
I'm just starting into radio and trying to ease in without spending a ton initially to make sure I don't spend a bunch and realize it's not for me.
I was considering getting a mobile radio designed for use in a vehicle since they're a bit cheaper and using it in the house at first. I was trying to find a PSU to power it in the home but all the PSU's I've seen are around $180 or more. Is there a cheaper way to do it?
Thanks! ]]>

Problems with Rig blaster Plus I https://hamradioforum.net/threads/8946-Problems-with-Rig-blaster-Plus-I?goto=newpost Wed, 29 May 2019 00:12:18 GMT I am having some trouble with my Rigblaster Plus (Original Version). First I plug in the power adapter and connect the DC power to the Rigblaster; the device power on.

Next, I wired the jumpers and connected them according to the manual. I connected the Rigblaster to my radio via the mic cable, plugged in my mic into the front of the Rig Blaster, and pressed the PTT button on the mic. All is nominal there.

Then I connected the USB to serial adapter to my computer and then the serial cable to the Rigblaster. I also made sure to connect the computer's audio line out to Rigblaster's audio line in. The adapter itself shows up in the device manager, but there is where my luck ends.

Not matter what drivers are installed (I tried the ones from West Mountain Radio), what COM port is selected in the software, what software I use, what baud rate is selected for the adapter, what settings are set on the radio itself, or even what computer I use. The radio never enters transmit mode and no power is being sent out of the radio (even when I manually select transmit mode on the rig itself.) VOX mode doesn't seem to do much either.

I know it is not a problem with the interface itself because using two identical Rigblasters produced the same results.

Both computers I tried are Intel based systems running Windows 10, and my rig is an Icom IC-725.

What is it that I may be doing wrong? Have I scrambled up the connections? I am using the wrong drivers? ]]>

W7ORW here, for the first real post.

A friend and Elmer here loaned me a SWR meter today.
It is a Sigma RF2000.
Despite my usual efforts to find a manual online, or a YouTube video about it, I'm coming up empty.

There is an adjustment knob on the front of it. I don't know what that is for.

The SWR readings I'm getting on 40, 80, and 20 meters is so low that I am not confident it's correct.

Can anyone point me to a source for a manual for this unit?

Thank in advance for any and all help!

73!

I am now looking to buy an FT-70DE, but this comes with a slow charger that plugs into the side of transceiver.

The rapid charger SBH 28 for the 70DE looks the same and has the same output (SBH 22 8.4V 800mA - SBH 28 8.4V 900mA). The slight difference in output current won't matter but are the terminals and slot sizes the same?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows. ]]>
